Futurism Restated: Mixes Digest #2
7 sets of slo-mo psychedelia, silvery daydream techno, flawless percussive house, and more
Two weeks ago I published the first edition of Futurism Restated’s Mixes Digest; today, we are—as the very online are wont to say—so back.
This issue runs the gamut of styles and moods:
a pair of wide-ranging club (or club-adjacent) sets from the heads behind a Berlin label with a fresh take on 2020s club fusions
a sleek and silvery techno session influenced by Amsterdam’s winter skies
an hour of slow, dubby, sidewinding chuggers from one of deepest-digging leftfield selectors on the scene
a tribute to a shuttering Chicago tape label played with actual cassettes
and a gorgeous home-listening session full of experimental ambient and contemporary composition.
Additionally, as a bonus for Apple Music subscribers, I’ve included a propulsive mix informed by Miami’s percussive house legacy. I only went to WMC twice and to be honest I never had a great time there, but this set makes me wonder if that’s just because I was going to the wrong parties all along?
Before I forget, here’s a freebie, too: Turns out that the Mabe Fratti Unsound performance that I wrote about in my Pitchfork feature was recorded and broadcast on Polskie Radio. You can listen to it here (I’ve linked to the Google Translate page)—click on the red play button to open a pop-up window; the concert begins a little over halfway through the broadcast, but it’s pretty easy to find the starting point.
Read on for the mixes!
